PENCIL: Using pencil when drawing a wine glass had its strengths and weaknesses. Most of my drawings outside of school have a medium of pencil so it was easy getting the shading done. The bad part about that is that graphite is gray and the darker areas of the piece were not as dark as I want. There is only one shade/color to work with while using pencil which is another weakness. Some strengths were that the pencil blended fairly easily. While using pencil, making drawings very elaborate and look realistic is very easy. CHARCOAL: To me, using a medium of charcoal was the most fun out of the three mediums. Using charcoal was a new and exciting experience for me. Even though it was very fun, there were many things that I didn't like about using this medium. Charcoal got everywhere and on my hands. This affected the drawing because I was using my fingers to smear and blend the drawing. The good part about using charcoal is that my drawing looks more realistic than the others. Shading was easier with charcoal too. To highlight the piece I used an eraser which made highlighting a whole lot easier than with pencil or pen. PEN: The medium of pen is not as unfamiliar to me as charcoal is. As all of the other mediums do, using pen also had lots of strengths and weaknesses. One weakness for me is that I feel that using pen for a drawing makes it less realistic and more of a cartoon style. Another weakness is that once you make a line you cannot reverse or erase it, you either have to cover it up or go with it. This made me mad because I messed up quite a few times on this piece. A strength is that using pen can also make it easier to add more and more detail to your piece. This made it easier more the piece to look better and more finished. Another strength of using pen is that the black and the dark areas really pop out because of the ink. This warm up really helped me with proportions. When I am drawing my proportions are usually off. This also helped me understand where to put things on the graph structure.
